June 25 New PedometerLove it! I logged 5272 steps today without actually "walking", just doing every day stuff! June 24 Sunday NightHi there! Nothing exciting to write about but I am trying to get into the habit of writing again so figured I would just put down SOMETHING. This was a nice, quiet, relaxing weekend. Friday night we went to Buffalo to pick up my new pedometer.I can't wait to use it tomorrow all day, I am aiming for the 10 thousand steps a day. I'll let you know how I do. Saturday we went to the BookCloseouts warehouse in St. Catharines as Den and Iain had never been and it was a nice day for drive. We picked up a few books and I picked up 5 audio books on cassettes for the audio book swap since I don't have too many. I also burned some CDs of audio books that I had from audible.com. I want to get an IPOD shuffle I think. I love my SANSA but it doesn't have drag and drop and no clip. The shuffle will be easier for walking and for the audio books, I think. They are under a hundred bucks so not a far stretch. Today, Lou, Orlane and Cyan dropped by and it was nice to see them again. Louisa did my hair for me. I just did a wash in colour - it is called Cafe Latte but it made my highlights go coppery and the rest of my hair a deep auburn. I love it! It will only last 5-8 shampoos so I may go see Margaret before it washes out so she can see what I want. Back to work tomorrow...I am thinking of taking Friday off so I can have an extra long weekend. But I haven't decided yet. I am still reading Town House by Tish Cohen and loving it. It is very Nick Hornby-ish and reminds me more of a British novel than an American one, although the author is Canadian maybe that's why. It really feels like it should be set in London rather than Boston. I wonder if it was originally set somewhere else and the publishers made the author change it. Baz Madigan also seems very much a British pop star type person rather than American, I keep seeing him as Ozzie Osbourne or Mick Jagger rather than Gene Simmons, you know? Off to bed. Will journal more soon. Oh, I gained back 0.6lbs last week so I am at a total loss of 12lbs, which is not wonderful, but still good. Tomorrow night, me, Shell and Lisa are getting together for our little rah rah session. I think I will take the Asian Cabbage Salad from Costco and see if one of the others can pick up a roasted chicken. June 15 10 Simple PleasuresI saw this on someone else's site and liked it and thought it was a good thing for me think about tonight. 10 Simple Pleasures 1. The smell of a tiny baby's head. You know how they smell like warm milk, talcum powder and that undefinable smell of .... love? 2. A tight hug from someone you only see once in a while that means so much more than words could ever say. 3. A rainbow. I remember a saw a rainbow on the day of the Gay Pride Parade in Toronto about 3 years ago and I thought...wow..God is giving his approval. 4. Holding hands. Just holding hands while walking with someone you love, or sitting in a movie theatre, or on the couch watching t.v., just feeling their pulse in your hand. 5. The smell of newly cut grass on a hot summer day. 6. Running through cool rain fall on a hot summer day. 7. A hot fudge sundae and two spoons. Enough said. 8. The smell of sheets dried outside. 9. Hot buttered toast. The ultimate comfort food. It has to be just right, not warm bread, not burnt...but crisp with the butter (the real stuff) melting right off the edges. 10. The time and peace to read a book. Hello...I'm still here....hanging in. The past few weeks have been busy and emotionally draining. My brother and his family visited from England which was wonderful but brought back alot of unresolved family "stuff" that is normally in the background since they are all so far away. Lots of unresolved issues that caused some sleepless nights. Despite that, Delicia is adorable and I miss her already. Debbie, Mike's girlfriend is truly a saint to put up with our crazy family and she is a sweet woman. I like her alot. Work is going...ok. I still hate being there most of the time but I just go in and try to get the stuff done. Some days it is a Herculean feat to get through the day but that is just not work, that is also all the emotional upheaval stuff and the stuff going on with Iain..which I don't want to go into now because I am sick to death of it at this moment. What can I say that is good? I read Armistead Maupin's "Michael Tolliver Lives", I won it from Harper Collins last month - and it was like going home to old friends. It cheered me up immensely and broke my 3 week reading drought. Right now I'm reading "My Friend Leonard" by James Frey which is the sequel to "A Million Little Pieces" and I have some audio books for the treadmill and my lunchtime walks. Oh yes, Wanda and I are walking at lunchtime for about 20 minutes or so every day or most days when it is not too hot. I'm in my 7th week of Weight Watchers and although the past two days have been a complete write off, I have lost 12.6lbs so far. Shelley and Lisa are doing it with me and they are great supports for days like today. Iain is going to England for three weeks in July to stay with Michele and I think the change will do him, and us, a world of good. Liam will be at summer day camp and I think he will enjoy himself as well. We're planning to go to the Book Obsessed Meet Up in July in Columbus with Shelley as well, which will be a nice weekend getaway and give us a chance to lounge around a pool in the sun. My swimming lessons didn't work out too well as the schedule coincided with Michele being here and me being sick, so I'm going to sign up again for July and its more intense, only one month, two times a week, that may be easier to manage than a 10 week program. Den is going through another sleep study as he's not been sleeping well and we will have the results in a few weeks. Nothing else to write for now. |
